SMART (Stress Management and Resiliency Techniques) Essentials for Everyday Life

SMARTâ„¢ is a 9-session, 20-hour, evidence-based program designed to teach participants to better manage stress and to cultivate emotional balance. It includes practices to help you reconnect to your own inner strength and capacity for resilience. The program is highly participatory, engaging and interactive. This evidence-based course trains participants to better manage work-related and personal stress in order to cultivate emotional balance.

LIVE ONLINE VIA ZOOM INTERACTIVE practices to help you develop inner strength and resilience to address the specific needs and challenges of life. SMART for Everyday Life is a secular, non-clinical program, delivered by accredited facilitators.

Description

Each session consists of presentations, group dialogue and experiential practices in mindfulness. A 4-hour silent retreat and weekly home practice is also part of the course. The course is highly participatory, engaging and interactive.

This program is based on the principles of MBSR (Mindfulness- Based Stress Reduction) an evidence-based program created by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre in 1979 and taught to many tens of thousands of people since that time.

You will learn how to:

  • Manage stress through a greater understanding and control of emotions.
  • Employ self-care techniques to cultivate personal and professional resilience.
  • Create effective strategies for relating to challenging situations.
  • Enhance concentration and executive function (planning, decision-making, and impulse control).
  • Revitalize purpose, personally and professionally.
  • Improve your overall mental and physical health.
  • Promote happiness through healthy habits of the mind

Meet The Program Facilitators

Franca Battaglia, SMART Facilitator / Mindful Yoga Teacher /Associate Mindfulness Teacher

FRANCA BATTAGLIA has a great love for learning and often seeks opportunities for Professional Development and Training to deepen her practice. These PD interests and studies include Mindful Self-Compassion, Yoga, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Positive Psychology, the Foundations of Wellness, and Inquiry Essentials.
Franca is a certified Mindful Yoga Instructor and maintains a regular Mindfulness & Yoga practice at home. In all, she hopes to merge her 15- year background in education, and her Mindfulness Experience and Yoga Training with her interests in supporting the community, counselling and the Arts.
Special thanks to her mentors and teachers, including Jon Kabat-Zinn, Heidi Bornstein & Dianna Last, Chris Germer, Kristen Neff, Rick Hanson, Tara Brach and Susan Woods for all their teachings which continue to guide, inspire and support Franca on her mindful life journey.
Franca is grateful to have found a path that nurtures greater conscious awareness, acceptance and clarity and she is looking forward to sharing mindfulness resources with the community.

Juia Nielson, SMART Facilitator / Associate Mindfulness Teacher

JULIA NEILSON has dedicated over 20 years to elementary school students as a teacher with the Halton District School Board since 1990. She has worked with varying grade levels from Kindergarten to grade 8. Julia has completed numerous workshops and courses through Mindfulness Everyday and Mindful Schools, dedicated to bringing Mindfulness to education and youth. With five years of personal practice, Julia has learned the importance of mindfulness and the positive changes it can bring to the way we live our lives, how we feel about ourselves, and how we interact with others.

I am inspired to help others learn how to incorporate mindfulness to live more consciously.
