This Foundation Academy for Mindful Teaching (AMT) Course is designed for those who would like to teach mindfulness to children 4-12 years old, using the Method Eline Snel in schools, institutions, or private practice. The 6-day AMT Course will be conducted in English. Materials can also be made available in French. Method Eline Snel:

Method Eline Snel consists of 8 x 30 to 40-minute lessons delivered weekly as well as 10-minute daily practices to support the weekly lessons, suitable for delivery in educational as well as private counselling sessions. The program addresses 2 age groups: 5-8 and 8-12. The content of the training course is synchronized with two “parent books”: “Sitting Still Like a Frog”, for parents of children 5-12 and “Breathe Through This”, mindfulness for parents of teenagers 12-19.

When Method Eline Snel is implemented in private practice, in small or individual counselling groups, parents are encouraged to practice with their children in a playful way and are included by weekly communication with home practice details.

Who Should Attend:

Education professionals including teachers, educational assistants, child and youth workers, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, audiologists and speech-language pathologists, physiotherapists, student support staff, special education staff, guidance counsellors as well as administrators and office staff. The program is also suitable for helping professionals who work with children, teenagers and young adults, including health care professionals, community leaders and staff.

Course Details

The training course and the mindfulness training for children are teacher proof and evidence based.
The content of the training course (and the child training) is experiential.
Aspects covered in the AMT training include:

  • Becoming familiar with the structure, content and essence of the lessons and different ways of working
  • Learning how to plan and give lessons from the training handbooks
  • Practicing the art of inquiry
  • Practice with intake interviews and evaluations of the course
  • Awareness of the importance of compassion
  • Research and the effect of mindfulness on the developing brain
  • Introducing the courses to the school, practice or institution in which you work

Pre-requisites:

Completion of an eight-week MBSR/MBCT/SMART training with a certified trainer
Experience working with children aged 4-12 in school, private practice, health care institute or after-school care.
Purchase and Read:
• “Sitting Still Like a Frog”, for parents of children 5-12
• “Breathe Through This”, mindfulness for parents of teenagers 12-19 Academic Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in education, psychology, health sciences, social work, or equivalent degree, or Advanced professional degree and/or equivalent experience

Certification Requirements – Study Load:

99 hours plus 5-day Silent Retreat (to be completed within 2 years) 24-hours for 8-10-week pilot including preparation time
• Implement an eight-week and/or ten-week pilot course for your own target group 45-hours in-class / supervisor contact
• Attend - 6-Day AMT training (42-hour) - 1-hour mandatory supervision meeting (supervision fees of €75 ($100 CD approx.) are exclusive of the course fee) - 1-hour introductory intake meeting - 1-hour supervisor contact allowance 10-hours
• Prepare a report reflecting your experiences of your pilot course 5-Day Silent Retreat
• To be completed within 2-year period after certification 6-8 hours
• Attend an annual compulsory Post-Academic Day

Certification as a Mindfulness trainer of children using the Method Eline Snel,
is awarded following 100% attendance, completion of a pilot course,
one supervision meeting and an approved report (with feedback from the trainer).

Mark Hansen is the chair of the Board of Directors for the Foundation Academy for Mindful Teaching. As a medical child and adolescent psychologist, he provides training within for the AMT training courses in the Netherlands and abroad. His focus is on creating a safe atmosphere within the group, so that an optimal learning climate is created.  Mark brings calmness, humour, and accessibility to the training course, and is available to provide ongoing support for the participants.
